Ben's Treasure

Ben brought some spoons which belonged to his great grandmother. The spoons come from lots of different countries all around the world.

Michael's Treasure

Michael brought some treasure to school today. He has some thimbles which belonged to his great grandmother. Thimbles stop needles from pricking your fingers.

Nikau's Family Treasure

Nikau brought a special ring to school. It belonged to GG, who lives a long, long way away. It is made a of gold and has a square black stone.

James's Treasure

James brought a Battlegon (a big lizard) to school. His Dad got it from McDonalds when he was a little boy. He was four when he got it (a Kindy boy). So we think it must be about 25 years old. The are lots of other McDonalds' toys; that James is now allowed to play with.

This toy is very special and we think it is cool.

One day James's dad will give it to him and James will let his grandchildren play with it.

Jamie's Family Treasure

Jamie brought his great grandfather's pocket watch to school, it has been passed down from his great grandfather to his grandfather to his dad. Jamie doesn't know if one day it will be given to him. The watch is 70 years old. It is a serviceman's watch.

Pocket watches were kept in a man's pocket and there was a chain to attach it to the shirt.

Jamie's grandfather's pocket watch is a treasure. The watch has never stopped ticking. It makes a lovely tick tock sound. This watch is 'ultra, ultra, ultra special to Jamie's dad'. Jamie doesn't know why, but we think the watch might remind Jamie's dad of his Grandad (Jamie's great grandad).

Treasures

We are learning about treasures. We decided that treasures can be;

something shiny

something special

a collection of things

something special from the past

something that has been passed down - from grandma to mum to you

something pretty

something breakable

something worth lots

sometimes treasures remind us of the past

sometimes they are kept in drawers or china cabinets

Children are asked to bring along a family treasure or a photo of the treasure. These can be e-mailed to school. We will be sharing these treasures. Parents are welcome to come along and talk with their children about their family treasure.
